SIPdev.org:About
Who we are
SIPdev.org is a developer community that is dedicated to building applications for next-generation, SIP-based networks using an XML language called XTML, and an associated service delivery platform. Our goal is to create a community of developers that share application components, tips and techniques, and source code to enable all of us to build better applications faster.
This web site is funded and operated by Pactolus Communication Software Corp, but welcomes contributions of articles and software from all community members, so long as they are relevant to our stated goals above.

What the site contains
There are three major areas of the site:
- Web pages (like this one), containing how-to articles and links to download software and documentation.
- Forums/bulletin boards, where you can post questions and comment on community projects (like the reservationless conferencing application).
- A source code repository, where all application source code for community projects and the application tutorials are kept.
The web pages are built using MediaWiki software; the bulletin boards are built using phpBB, and the open source repository uses Subversion.
Who should be interested in this site
This site is geared for developers who want to build applications for next-gen VoIP or IMS networks. A developer can get a fully-functioning development environment here at no cost, including:
- service creation environment
- SIP application server
- software media server, capable of IVR and conferencing
- tools for managing and operating all of the above.
If you get yourself a SIP softphone or ATA, you will have all you need to develop and test any type of next-gen communication application for VoIP or IMS networks.
Furthermore, the site contains a wealth of tutorial applications and other knowledge resources to enable developers to quickly become proficient in building applications.
Finally, the open source repository contains fully-functioning applications that developers can adapt and extend for their specific needs.
The application server and software media server are Linux-based, requiring no special hardware. Community applications are built using standard open source products such as mySQL, Apache, and Ruby, and tools such as Eclipse and Subversion, all of which can be acquired at no cost.
